About

Hi, my name is Cyrus Kazemi. I’m a 19 year old sophomore at the University of Washington. I was born in Santa Ana, California but have lived in Western Washington for most of my life. At the beginning of next school year I hope to enter the Informatics program here at UW.

I have been interested in technology since I was little. I started out playing Oregon Trail and Math Blasters on Mac IIs in elementary school and my family got our first computer when I was 7. From our behemoth (at the time) 333 Mhz Pentium II, I started building and modifying my own computers. The laptop I got for college is the first computer I haven’t assembled for myself. I started editing videos in 7th grade and fell in love with the media possibilities offered by computers. Through high school, my editing skills grew steadily and I was pretty sure I wanted to pursue a career in post-production. A summer course at Digipen University opened my eyes to the world of programming.

During my last year of high school, I decided to create a website for my dad’s company. I started teaching myself how to code in HTML and CSS and again fell in love with what I was learning. Making websites combines the creative side of digital art and the technical side of programming. Once I started reading blogs about tech news and Internet startups, like techcrunch.com and paulstamatiou.com, I was sold.

When I graduate from college I want to work at a startup company and create something that has the potential to change the way people work or play or browse or interact. Startup companies have that exciting edge knowing that their work can make fundamental changes in everyday life for millions of people. This blog allows me to share my knowledge and insight as I follow the startup community and learn more about every aspect of developing web apps and how startups are run. I have a few projects that I will post about later that will bring the excitement of the startup world to a wider audience. Thanks for reading!
